Python applications, Python language and everything with a snake in its name might seem a bit gibberish to many Symbian users. Basically, Python is a much easier to use language for programmers than the native Symbian language (C++). It’s easier to edit given that there are even programs that help developers write the code on the phone itself, and to run since they can easily compile it in a native .sis package, which definitely trumps Java. The downside is that users have to get the Python dependencies on their handset before installing the applications. If you’re wondering whether Python is worth it, here are our top 5 Python applications for Symbian, they should help you see whether you need it or not.

If you found any of these applications enticing enough for you to get Python, you should first download Python Script Shell then Python 1.4.5 if you have an S60 3rd Edition device (no touchscreen). Otherwise, if you’re on a touchscreen Symbian device, you have to get Python 1.9.7 which is the latest and most stable beta.
